Start with a good clear photo.
Crop it to get rid of unwanted distractions in the background.
Adjust the contrast so it's clear and looks good.

A webpage is 800 x 600 pixels and the display will be at 72 dpi, because thats what monitors display at. A higher resolution such as 300 dpi makes a bigger filesize but the monitor will still only display at 72dpi!
About 600 x 400 px at 72 dpi is fine.

Save it as a jpeg but don't lower the quality by compressing it too much, no more than 80.
And remember, every time you open and then close and save a jaypeg it compressess it again! Don't keep opening and saving Jaypeg files, you'll destroy them.

So take your original photo, load it on the pc and open it, then Save As a bitmap.
Make all the changes you need and when its ready then Save As a jaypeg again.

Here's some freeware image editors in case you don't have Photoshop;

Use high quality images... don't be a fool and pay for affiliate help! You'll only end up spending money you don't need to! A nice clear image, is as good as any! Just check it before you whack it online! you could always set up a website and have a gallery of different angles! and some larger shots! stear clear of selecting images that are just too small to see! best 640x480! High res!

I would ( have ) use around 800x600 pixel, the size that you would normally use in an email, at that size they come out well enough to be clear, any bigger and they may not be accepted by the system, just make sure that the original photo is good and clear.
