Wouldn't that save lives? Wouldn't it be better to provide a public transportation system for them and keep other people safe and alive?

The city I live in has a population of around 200,000. Here, the majority of accidents are caused by very senior citizens. Many are fatalities.

Those statistic number crunchers do not live here. Sitting in an office looking at papers with numbers don't always tell truth.

I think you should base it on the ability of the individual, maybe require that after your 70th birthday to have an annual driving test

You can't put an exact age on it. Some people are great drivers when they are in their 90s. Others are terrible drivers by the time they reach 60. What they need to do is start making people retake the driving test when they reach a certain age. My wife's grandfather has been in several accidents and his sight isn't very good. He really shouldn't be on the road.

According to accident statistics, the age group that presents a significant threat to the general population is the 16-21 age group. If they were taken off the road you would see a significant drop in deaths and in disabling injuries. The old folks in contrast represent a far lesser threat.

Good theory except for one thing....statistics do not support that....there are more fatal (in fact more accidents in general) with drivers in their teens and twenties...so maybe what needs to be done is people can not drive until they are 30.....or maybe a zero tolerance on accidents....1 accident that is your fault no matter how minor and you can not drive.....
Second point.....do not group all people together....not all old are unable to do things.....there are 80 year olds that are much more active and alive than some 30 year olds.....and there and many teens and twenties that are very mature and safe in what they do.....

If everywhere in this country, people had a good, reliable public transportation system, then people of all ages could give up their cars, and not be isolated.
I understand frustration with older drivers (I live in Florida!). But I also know how scary and limiting it can be to give up your right to drive. Suddenly, you're a shut-in. Are you gonna start driving a van and picking up people so they can shop for groceries??
We need to advocate for better public transportation (buses, trains) and get off our addiction to having our *own* cars. We're just killing ourselves with more pollution.

I think there should be a mandatory driving test at age 60, and every 5-10 years beyond that. But not necessarily a REVOCATION of a license based on age. That's blatant discrimination.

Some people at the age of 70 are still very capable of driving, some are not. If that were to come true, perhaps they can revoke the privilage of driving to some teenagers, who choose to drink and or use drugs and drive, they kill alot more people.

Some should, some should not. They should be periodically tested after 65. Actually I would prefer if the world would change its form of transportation to something similar to that portrayed in Logan's Run. It would solve a LOT of problems.
Accidents
Road Kill
Gas Prices
Cost of Maintaining a Vehicle
etc...

i personally do not want my privledges taken away from me because i am a certain age. driving privlledges should be taken away when a professional declares that for some reason a person should not drive.
i grew up with my grandparents and they drove us around all the time. my grandmother didn't drive at night once she hit 73 probably.
i know many 35 year olds that should have their licenses revoked due to stupidity.

ONLY if they were not allowed to get it until they are 69. I'd rather have most 70 year olds I know on the road than most of the 17 year olds I know. Judging by your Avatar name, you are one of the ones that should not get a license until you're 69.
