Well Norton will lag your system. Remove it and replace it with something like Avast antivirus from www.avast.com. It's free and faster than Norton. You should also download an antispyware program like Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.com. Use that to clean any spyware out of your computer.

Some other things you can do are running a Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter. Both are available via your Start menu. Click Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools. That is where they will be.

The only hardware you didn't mention is your processor. If you are using an Intel Celeron processor that will cause your system to lag, especially if you are attempting to multitask.

Sounds like you're using Microsoft Windows. The longer you use Windows for, the slower it gets. It gets really noticable after about 6 months. Within a year you'll have to re-install.

There are some measures you can take to speed things up, like defragment the hard disk drive. If you haven't done this yet, then this is a first step.

Also, the defrag tool that coms with Windows isn't up to the job. You'll need to get this one as well, and run it afterwards:

Norton AV isn't the best in the world. Grab a free copy of superantispyware:

And run that through once.

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

Go to Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance>Free Up space on hard disk.

This gets rid of stuff that is taking up space and that you do not need. Doing so might speed up your computer a bit.

You might have a lot of spyware on it, also you might have a lot of programs connected to your start up. You can go to task manager to check on that.
