36x£2.45
you need to multiply the units. 36 = 3 tens and 6 Units
MULTIPLY BY
2.45 (we will treat this as a whole number for now)
Write it out in the following way
2 4 5
x 3 6
---------
^ after, you 1st multiply the bottom with the top. So, you start w/ the unit. Ie. 6.
there fore 6 x 5, 6 x 4, 6 x 2.
2 4 5
x 6
-------
6 x 5 = 30
6 x 4 = 24
6 x 2 = 12
Back to your little diagram you will write out your information
2 4 5
x 6
-------
1 4 7 0
(you can only write one unit at a time. Therefore 6 x 5 = 30. You can NOT write 30 your answer box. Reason for this is because you have other units as well (ie. 2, 4) You carry 3 onto the next figure which is 4.
4 x 6 = 24
24 + 3 = 27
Again you can not write 27 together in your answer. Follow the steps above.
2x6= 12
12 + 2 = 14
In this case, 2 is the last unit you multiplied by. You can in this instance, write your final answer together (14)
You do the same with 30 (NOTE: 3 tens = 3 x 10 = 30)
(anything multiplied by 0 = 0)
2 4 5
x 3 0
---------
30 x 5 = 150
30 x 40 = 1200
30 x 200 = 6000
(this is another method - which u may find easier)
You sum up the answers
180 + 1200 + 6000 = 7,350
30 + 6 (245) = 7350 + 1470
36 x 245 = 8820
ALMOST THERE
You just need to add the decimal places
You account for 2 decimal places (starting from the end)
£ 88.20 = Your FINAL answer

Method 1:
36 x £2.45
= (30 x £2.45) + (6 x £2.45)
= £73.50 + £14.70
= £88.20
Method 2:
36 x £2.45
= (36 x £3) - (36 x £0.55)
= £108 - £19.80
= £88.20
Method 3:
36 x £2.45
= (40 x £2.45) - (4 x £2.45)
= £98 - £9.80
= £88.20
I was horrible at Math. But someone told me that the trick to solving this kind of question is to group numbers together so that they are easier to calculate. Sometimes what Math needs is a little twist of creativity. Hope this helps :)

I'll help you, just email me. I'd solve your problem, but you must have typed it in incorrectly, as I have no idea what the fourth symbol means in math
