how to attach a tooled leather belt as a strap to a handbag I've made?

I felt wool and I make sweaters and handbags. I decided that recycled hand tooled leather belts would make a great strap, however I'm not quite sure how to attach the leather strap. any suggestions?

hot glue. or you could sew it on using a sewing machine if it's not too thick.
