Do you have to pay a Monthly Fee for The Sims 2?

I want to buy The Sims 2. I have heard that it is not a game where you pay monthly, and I have heard that you do. Can someone clarify this for me?

And if you do have to pay a monthly fee, how much?

You just buy the game, install it and its your forever. No fees needed.

The makers of The Sims are making an online version, that might be what you are hearing about.
