I have 2 white and 2 black & white convicts. The black & whites had babies once. One of the white ones spent all his time being aggressive towards the pair. As the fry got bigger, he managed to dominate the black & white male. Now the female has new babies inside of a skull in the tank, where she spends most all of her time. I have been so mad at the white convict, because he hovers around all the time. I thought he was giving her a hard time. It occurred to me this morning that maybe he is the father, and that is why he is hovering... He never leaves the area, and behaves just as the black & white did last time. Is this likely what is happening? If so I feel bad for my ill will toward him!

The only difference between your white convicts and your striped convicts is their color pattern. They are not separate species or sub species. The difference is like the difference between black labs and yellow labs. Convicts can and will spawn repeatedly, and with whichever partner is readily available at the time.

One thing that I will warn you about is that when white and striped convicts interbreed the fry will vary between the parents patterns; some white, some striped, and most somewhere in between.

Hope this answers your question.

Human nature is the biggest reason. no longer all of us is a racist, the two black, white or in any different case. besides the shown fact that, our media maintains to accuse all individuals of racism and we proceed to drink the lemonade they serve. there'll consistently be those that don't love different individuals for despite reason. that may not replace. besides the shown fact that, pay extra interest to what is going on around you and make your individual assessment approximately racism based upon your very own stories no longer what we are being bombarded with each and on a daily basis interior the media. i'm the son of Italian immigrants that grew up in a city of generally Irish human beings. there have been those that did no longer enable my brother and that i to play with their little ones in straightforward terms because of fact of our nationality. in no way thought something of it different than it replaced into their subject. Yes, different strains of convict will breed together. Many types of cichlid, even not as closely related as yours are, could possibly breed and create little hybrids.
