I am at a point in my life where I am considering purchasing a ferrari, Definitely used and obviously not as a daily driver, but definitely on the weekends. I've heard that they are very expensive to maintain, driven or not. is there a reasonable ferrari(or the like) that is reliable to the point that I wont have to spend 3k every time I turn the key. or should I just buy a used vipor(i've heard they are extremely reliable) but not my first choice.

my experience with the ferrari is that they are quite reliable. However, the technology of the ferrari cars did not get to a point of tolerable reliability until the model of F355. Cars before the F355 such as the 348, 328, 308 are just great engines looking for a chasis and the electrical system was not sorted out in those cars. I have driven, extensively, the 360, and the 430 but in my opinion, the 355 if the ride to have. It looks like a classic ferrari and build with modern tolerances. However, I like to point out also that the Testarossa is also a good model. but if you are looking for acceptable reliability, try to get one after the year '92 or go straight to the 512 and the 512M. I am generally not too impressed with the 550 Maranello line. I think Ferrari put their best and brightest engineers on the V8 midengines but not too much time was invested in the v12 front engines. The new front-mid 599 should change that. Furthermore, STAY AWAY from the F1 system in the 355 and the 360! They were not properly developed and are extremely difficult to drive smoothly on the road (only makes sense on the track) and will cost a bundle if they break down; even the system in the Maserati is better then the ones in 355 and 360. F1 has only became "right" in the F430. However, back to the question of reliability. As a rule of thumb, try to get at least the 2nd model year, 3rd will be best; unless you are getting the 1st year F430. Good luck

If you are that concerned about Ferrari maintenance then you can't afford it. They are not cheap to maintain in any sense of the word. A 308 GTB would be a good start if you are dead set on a Ferrrari. A Viper may be more reliable but again they are not a cheap car to own. If you want a play car for the weekend that's reliable then consider a Mustang GT or a Corvette. The Vette will be more expensive for parts but definitely less than a Ferrari or Viper. A Mustang GT can be upgraded with a supercharger and handling items to perform almost at the same level at a fraction of the cost of the high end cars. And your wallet will hurt less if you break it.

Ferrari Reliability

Ferraris are as reliable as you make them. Meaning if you perform the proper maintenance on them when the maintenance is suppose to be performed they will be more reliable than if you prolong your maintenance intervals. As for buying a Viper over a Ferrari, I would not. That is my personal opinion because even the new Vipers have much worse handling than a Ferrari F430. The Vipers do not come with traction control and don't have the proper suspension for not putting traction control on the vehicle. Even with the traction control turned completely off in a F430 the suspension is much more stiff than a Viper and will handle a lot better. My personal opinion, but if you're going to get a supercar, you might as well spend the extra money to get a Ferrari (that Italian name didn't get a great worldwide reputation by not being reliable).

Ferrari 348 Reliability

There s a lot of ignorance out there! There s a reason you are considering a Ferrari. Having money means you made the right choices, you do your homework. All those that respond with the dumb, "you don t have enough if your asking" or "if you do then why worry" are most likely losers who would be completely content in a Ford Mustang. Having money that you earn means you cover all your bases, you win in every situation and calculate and prepare for every possible outcome. All you other nimwits need not worry, because of you ever got so lucky to have money it would be gone quickly. F430 or the 512... The 2nd plus year 458 s are proving to be nice work horses.

I would not say they are hard to maintain, maybe more expensive to maintain. Lets face it, if you have a car like a Ferrari you will want it to perform its best all the time, that takes extra maintenance and a very dedicated eye to keep watch of anything that can go wrong. As far as which model is more reliable? I always keep in mind, Every auto manufacturer has its lemons, none excluded.

Ferraris are.... AWESOME but.... they are really hard to maintain. You will not have to spend 3k everytime you turn the key. I love vipers so I got one. They are not expencive but you need to take care of your "baby" so to speak. They are just as good as a ferraris. I hope I helped you. If you take good care of your cars the will get you where your going!!

If running costs are in issue I would suggest looking at the Honda/Acura NSX...reliable as a Civic and with just a few upgrades will keep up with just about anything else

If you have money to buy a Ferrari you cannot ask this question.
It's like to have a 60ft motor yatch and complain for the fuel price.
