I saw the movie yesterday. Rather than get into some deep Freudian analysis of Mel's motivations, or discuss as some have the historical inaccuracies (there is one big one, but it doesn't really matter), let me just say this: This is one terrific movie, perhaps the most impactful I've ever seen. I was on the edge of my seat literally every minute. This is a brutal film, beautifully and carefully crafted and "in your face" unlike any other. It makes Saving Private Ryan look like PeeWee's Playhouse. Some will criticize the violence. All I can say is that it feels real and credible. Just as Last of the Mohicans had scenes of incredible cruelty and violence which felt right in context, the whole premise of Apocalipto brings to life just a few days in the death spiral of the Mayans.
If you like cinema, see this film. It is incredible. Forget the psychoanalysis...just watch it for what is it. A work of art.

Mel Gibson disgusts me. He is an anti semitic racist. I won't see the movie.
