Duhhhhhhhhhhhh.
"The House also approved, 330-59, an agreement to allow U.S. shipments of civilian nuclear fuel to India, an administration priority that is opposed by some because India, which has nuclear weapons, has not submitted to full international inspections."

Why would US send India more civilian nuclear fuel? Yes, I understand the economic factors, but would that extra fuel not give India a one-up on surrounding countries... Pakistan included? Would that not make those countries a bit nervous?

Already China is emerging as a major arm player in the Asia and it may emerge as more potential arm arsonal in the world. We may seek nuclear fuel from US, but we need not bound down to them. We are ignoring our vast Thorium reserves, which will be sufficiant to provide nuclear fuel for voer 300 years and in which US can not beat us.
Manmohan seems to be udner the pressures of US, than in the national interest.

India already has nuclear weapons. So do Pakistan and China. India and Pakistan are currently in Cold War not at all dissimilar to the US-Soviet situation in the previous decades. Except they arn't seperated by thousands of miles-they share a border.

Arms race is irrelevant because already both the parties have nukes. I hope this is not a deal to dump some unwanted technology.

India is a putative superpower. It has the economic means and financial resources to develop its nuclear arsenal to magnanimous levels.

Pakistan doesn't. If Paki land tries to compete with India, it will end up ruining itself like the USSR did.
