As doing a Windows Update, I see this, PLEASE SOMEONE BREAK THIS DOWN TO WHERE I CAN UNDERSTAND, AS I AM COMPUTER DUMB....(here is what it says it means, "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 resolves various issues found after the initial release of .NET Framework 1.1. These include both security- and non-security-related issues. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed." ...i don't understand this..

It is basically a a program in itself to help other programs run. For example, Expressions requires ASP.NET 2.0 to be installed before you can install expressions.
Consider it something like code and it is the code that some programs on your computer is based on. The (SP)service pack is basically an update. People hack int MS projects all the time, so MS issues udpates to protect the computer
