Pay raises should be put on a ballot for the voters do decide on after all we are they ones paying them. Where else can I find a job like that which I go into work and decide it's time to give myself a pay raise? Where else can I get a job that the full time position is less then 180. Make a six figure in come and a full work week is considered only actual three day?

No wonder so many people lie, cheat, switch parties just to be elected.

Did you actually read the article you provided a link for?

"Democrats made good on a promise to block an automatic congressional pay raise until the minimum wage is increased. Under pressure from future House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Reid, GOP leaders added language to the stopgap funding bill language stopping the pay raise slated for Jan. 1 until Feb. 16."

Sounds to more like a bipartisan agreement to delay the already scheduled pay raise. Nothing in the article says anything about a new pay raise.

Pay raise is stupid but take a look at their pensions once. They are the only segment of society who DOESN'T have to worry about their retirement packages.

Let's tie their raises to the cost of living and dump their special pensions, put them on social security and profit sharing. Hey presto, they would really try to fix social security and maybe balance the budget too.

But it won;t happen, they are already griping because the dems are going to make them work close to a 40 hour week, poor babies.

All Democrats and a few Republicans consistently vote a pay strengthen to themselves. Democrats will possibly wait till the 2008 elections are over, while they anticipate to Rule Firmly.

Since most of them got voted out, they gave the new congress a pay raise. Only time will tell if they deserve it.

It has always been my opinion that Congress people should not make more than the accepted average middle class income. They are there to work for the people, not to enrich themselves. If you want to make money then you should aspire to the private sector.

No, they have so many things they haven't handled and really haven't earned it. Most employers pay for performance, but maybe the lobbyists haven't paid enough this year, and so they decided to attack the tax payer once again, so they can continue living high on the hog.

Actually, the law (passed by dems decades ago) gives them automatic pay raises, they would have to vote to not get one. Don't you wish you were in congress?

I am tempted to say something extreme. But screw it. The American People were whipped to hell and back by their government so long ago, it is accurate to say hope has not existed in my lifetime. And I am older than most the posters here.

Peace

It's not a matter of whether or not they deserve it It's a matter of
the more they make the less likely they are to be corrupt.
