Advent has as many different definitions as there are people, depending on your background. I would say one of the simplest definitions is "a coming into place, view, or being; arrival: the advent of the holiday season" per the on-line dictionary.com.
I have advent holiday boxes for my boys in which everyday they open a door to find a surprise. It's just something to help them "count down" to Christmas day.
To create an advent Xmas card, I would cut out two pieces of paper that are the size you want for your card. Then draw X amount of boxes on one. After that is done, simply cut 3 of the 4 sides out of each box and then glue it to the other sheet with the flaps open. Lastly, you can draw something under each flap, revealing whatever you'd like. You could make it as big as a poster board using Velcro flaps, or as small as a hand-held card using tape. Be as creative as you'd like. I've never thought of it, but it sounds pretty fun.
Since December has already started, you could just do one for the 12 days leading up to Christmas. You could get the material and all to start next Thursday the 14th and count down.

Cut windows in a card with a different picture behind each one. One for each day December 1-25. For children they can glue cotton balls on Santa's beard each day or make a paper chain and take 1 off each day.

fold a paper in half and cut a christmas tree out of it and write what ever you want in it .Judging that you celebrate advent you most likley are a catholic and you should say CHRISTmas not xmas you ar taking the christ away from christams
