In Star Wars: A New Hope, the Empire spent its time and money torturing Princess Leia to get her to reveal the location of a secret Rebel base. (Ultimately they were going to use the Death Star to blow it up... I guess.)

So, my question is: where was it really?

Was it on Yavin Four or Hoth? Some place else?

(I know this question doesn't matter much - but I haven't asked one in a couple of weeks. This is the best that I can do.)

Yavin Four. That's where Leia was headed with the plans for the Death Star. She instead lied and said Dantooine, an old, abandoned Rebel base.

But, as you know, the Imps later found out that it was Yavin Four and were close to blowing it up...

Oh, and it wasn't Hoth: They moved to Hoth once the Empire invaded Yavin Four preceeding the Death Star's destruction. It's at the edge of the Star Wars universe; very far out.

The secret Rebel base was on the fourth moon of the Yavin system (Yavin IV). The planet Yavin was the reddish gas giant that you see near Yavin IV. The rebels established the base in the ancient ruins of Massassi pyramids.

Echo base, on Hoth was not established until after the Rebels were forced to evacuate the Massassi base following its discovery and the Death Star's destruction. Luke Skywalker was instrumental in discovering that Hoth would be a good location for a new base.

The Death Star would have blown up Yavin IV, except that Luke's proton torpedoes caused a chain reaction that destroyed the Death Star.

There was once a Rebel base on Dantooine, but it had been abandoned. Leia mentions that location to Tarkin, knowing that it is obsolete information, in order to spare her homeworld of Alderaan.

She said they were on Dantooine. Dantooine was promptly blown to kingdom come.

It was actually on Yavin. Hoth didn't enter the picture until The Empire Strikes Back.

The one she told them was Dantooine. They scouted it and found it was abandonded. The actual base they were trying to get from yet was on Yavin IV. They put a tracking device on the Millenium Falcon for that one.

It was located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in the Amish country! Somewhere near Bird-In-Hand, Intercourse, or Blue Ball!
