It depends on the skirt- some are in the front, some on the side, and some in the back. Usuallu dressy skirts have it in the side or back, and casual skirts have it in the front. Its there because it is easier to locate and zip and unzip, and also creates a more uniform look.

Skirts come with the zipper on the front, back, or sides. If you don't like a front zip, then buy one that has the zipper elsewhere.

All of the fasteners used to be in the back on women's skirts, pants, and dresses for a smoother line, but once designers figured out that some women have trouble with back buttons/zipper/hooks/etc... they started placing them in the front and sides for easier access.

so my bf can go through easily...mny icros have a zip on the sides and i do not keet it all closed...so some skin is shown
