lots of self control especially after meals, during drinking sessions and times when u always pick up a cigarette. Smelling someone smoking or just stress out at work... you will find yourself thinking of it and there will be challenges when yr smoking buddies will try to get u to smoke again. The word is "self control" . I did it and have been smoke free for 5 years now... not once did I turn around to pick up the cigarette becos I know that if I just did it once, I will be an addict again.. gd luck

I quit 3 years ago after smoking for 35 years. What happens is that you will have moments of intense cravings but don't give in to them and they will pass. As time goes on the intervals between the "craving attacks" get longer and longer, from every few hours to a few times a day, to a few times a week, to a few times a month until you don't have them any more. It takes about six months.
