y=1/2x-4
y=2x+2
Set up you x-y coordinate system
for the first equation set x =0 and find th y = -4. So mar the point A(0,-4) on the coordinate system.
In the same equation set y=0 and find that x = 8
So mark the point B(8,0) on the coordinate system
Draw a straight line passing A and B. This is the graph of the first equation.

Now repeat this process for the second equation and you should get a line passing through (0,2) and (-1,0)

The two lines will intersect at (-4, -6) so the solution is x = -4 and y = -6
