Get proof about the ID theft, if u can. Either way go to your boss or Human Resources and tell them the situation. They have access to things u don't, like computer network info, computer spy software, video surveillance etc., and they may b able to find out some things u couldn't. Do u know who used your name? If you do, it should help to prove your case as long as the thief didn't use your computer to perpetrate the crime, or u can prove u were somewhere else, and weren't at the place where the infraction occurred. Your employer or HR dept. should want to find out the truth. If they find the truth there should be no reason for them to do a background check on you. Especially considering that you've been w/ the company for seven years. GL hope u catch the ID thief.

Using your name or using your social security number? Several people have the same first and last name. There is nothing uncommon about that. No one has the same social security number and that's what the back ground check uses. Your driver's license number and social security number. Me.... I wouldn't sweat it. Just list all the charges you have actually had against you and don't worry about it. Heck if you've been there for 7 years, they are not going to fire you over somthing like that.

that's harsh. I'd be upfront about whats going on. If you try to hide it, it'll make you look guilty for a crime you didnt commit. Tell them they can go to the police, you'll take a lie detector test, anything to prove your innocence. Also if you havent already, report this to the police!!! That way its on record that someone is using your identity. If they really don't believe you tell them to take you to the police station and have a finger print test done. If you're free of crime, and the other person using your name got busted, then obviously no match will be found for your prints and they'll see that youre innocent.

Get a police report or something showing that you are not the person that got in this trouble and take it to your HR dept. I work in HR so I know that if someone steals your identity or gets in trouble under your name you'd have some kind of report or paperwork. Show that to them before they run your back ground check - be up front about it to them - don't let them run it and THEN tell them - looks shady if you do. main thing, be honest.

It depends what kind of trouble, actually this happened to a friend of mine recently. Her sister robbed a store and got caught, she had no I.D. on her and gave them her sister's name (my friend). Well if it is a serious problem that risks you I would let the police know and press charges, this way you get in absolutly no trouble at all.
The sooner the better.

I would file a police report for identity theft that way it is on record that you are disputing the validity of the report

There are many people out there with the same names. If your past is bad then you will get what you deserve. If they didn't ask before or you didn't tell the truth if they did, you will get what you deserve, although I am sure they would take into account your work history with them.

Tell them who the person is that is using your name, and they will get fired instead of you. Defend yourself!
