Iran does not say they want to build the bomb. They say they are going to use it for peaceful purposes only. They are open for the international inspections to prove it.

On the international law bit the building and owning of nuclear weapons is prohibited by the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaties (SALT I and SALT II), which state that no country can now gain nuclear weapons and limit the possession to USA, France, Russia, China, The UK

India, Pakistan and Israel all have this bomb in contravention of these treaties and no action has be taken against them. Also the treaty was never ratified by every world government so it is dubious in terms of international law

The argument for nuclear weapons is that it maintains the peace as no country will attack each other. Reluctantly I have to agree this is correct. ie. Afghanistan doesn't have the bomb, it does nothing wrong and the USA invades it, Iraq doesn't have the bombs does nothing wrong and the USA invades it , Korea does nothing wrong develops the bomb and the USA impose trade sanctions, so having the bomb seems to ensure that the marines aren't shooting up your capital. Given this Iran would be mad not to protect itself from USA/UK aggression

It was acceptable for the USSR under Stalin, considered to be worlds greatest monster even more so than Saddam, to obtain the bomb. Somehow that ended reasonably well over time. Times indeed have changed - no risks anymore.

Well, it doesn't matter really why Iran cannot have them or in how far they are really trying to get them even. What only matters for the US (or at least the few still believing in the PNAC strategy for US and Israel) is increasing pressure on Iran that leads to inner or outer conflict - for change.

Iran did sign on to the nuclear non-proliferation agreements, so there are legally binding treaties that they volunarilly agreed to.

The issues here revolve around certain technologies that are "dual use" - used in peaceful power production, easily used for bomb technology.

Iran has said they're open to inspections, but they've flip-flopped on that depending on how tough the inspectors have been on them.

There's a great deal of prestige and influence that goes with being a nuclear power, and Iran's track record hasn't been good.

However, the US and the claims we make, and our methods of "diplomacy" towards nations who don't kowtow to us leaves an equally spotty track record.

Iran is not as evil or as close to a bomb as the US claims. Iran is also not as pure as they claim.

in case you think of the U. S. controls Israel's inner rules you're fallacious. the U. S. did no longer "enable" Israel to have nuclear weapons (which they in all probability do) - Israel got here up with them with the help of itself. additionally, final time I checked Israel has in no way threatened to wipe an entire united states off the face of the Earth - like the government in Iran has. it relatively is why nuclear weapons of their hands is somewhat worrisome. The fallout from a nuclear attack with the help of Iran ought to set off a worldwide nuclear war. If this does not concern then you you truly at the instant are not paying interest. the U. S. is somewhat worried some nuclear hands race interior the middle East. you're fallacious.
