It will stay on for 10 years with Experian and Equifax - 7 years with Transunion. It will have little importance in your overall credit score/report after 2 years if you take care of any new accounts you get (not just paying on time, but also keeping your balance to limit ratio at about 33%). Good luck!

Not really sure about chapter 7 bankruptcy - I thought personal bankruptcy used to take about 5-6 years to clear? Now I have a sneaky feeling that it can be as little as three years, sometimes less?
Best place for info would be your local Citizen's Advice Bureau (for free advice)...

It will be on there for the full 10 years. There is one credit bureau that removes them after 7, but it will show up on the others for exactly 10 years.

Federal law allows the BK to stay on your record for up to 10 years. Your credit score after filing for BK depends on how you conduct yourself. I know of one person who had their credit score back up to 740 in about 12 months after receiving her discharge. I have an article on my blog about rebuilding your credit after bankruptcy if you need more information.
