my girlfriend told me that starting 1 Jan 2008.. Is it for sure?

Your girlfriend is right. I'm from Hungary - another EU-10 country that will join the Schengen Zone, and the current date is postponed to 2008 jan.1 from 2007. jan. 1.

SLOVENIA will be in schengen from the 1st January 2007. I just came back from there. And you already pay in EURos, but they give you back in TOLLARS. From january 1st, 2007, just EUROS but u can still change tollars in a bank.

No they are not yet part of the Schengen Zone
