it just makes mine shorter and im trying to grow them.. arrhh adn ti makes my spine shivver sometimes like when people scratch there fingernails on a chalkboard.. *shivver*

trust me, by doing this it does help them grow. it shapes them and if you are trying to grow them, do not go to get them done...it messes them up. buy a manicure kit and use it to file, take of your cuticle, and if needed to cut them from time to time. i take my kit in my purse just in case.
Also, paint your nails (2 coats) with clear, harding, growing nail polish. (try sally hanson). It takes 5 minutes to dry and it works. But, it is hard work to grow nails. you have to file them, etc. at least once or twice a week, and you have to remove and reapply the polish every 5 days. or when it starts to peel before that. but, trust me its worth it!

Fileing your nails means putting them between a piece of folded cardboard, putting a label on a tab on the cardboard, and putting the "nail-file folder" into a file cabinet!

Fileing your nails basically allow you to give your nails a specific shape without actually cutting them. ie: A square nail tip oppose to a round/oval one.

i'm the same way, i have to leave the room if someone is fileing their nails, like you said its like scratching a chalk board to other people, but chalk board dosent bother me and that does

it makes them softer on the tips. without it they would be long and sharp.
