The true meaning of love cannot be described or explained.
Love is when you care so much for someone that you would do anything for them.
Love is painful.
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love is the greatest treasure.
Love is when someone throws up on you and you stay up with them so they can throw up on you again.
Love is the greatest gift.
Love conquers all.
Love is what the Grinch learned that day when he was on his way home with the spoils and he heard love anyway.
Love is a beautiful and wonderful thing.
For God so loved the world that he gave His only son, that whoever believes in HIM shall have everlasting life.
The true meaning of love can only be felt with the heart.
It is too grand for words.
Peace.

If philosophers and theologians have been trying to answer this question for thousands of years, what makes you think that you'll get the "true" meaning, rather than a poorly formulated working definition, of love off of Yahoo! Answers? Or are you just unaware that your question is an open one; one that does not admit of a single answer that excludes the possibility of other plausible answers?

true love is just when u can reach the extreme level of honesty
and frank with the other partner, it's when u got no limits for tellin her or him the smallest secrets of your life . and feel no shame for doing this.
it's also when u can feel about each other without begin together,, u just get worried right now about your partner! and u get to call her or him and u really find them in trouble or having bad times.. and vise-versa
and true love cannot be from one side .. it's gotta be giving and taking... not only one of them
and when someone can live only giving and not waiting to take back... this can be an angle :)

When you 'feel' something, somebody as a part of you, you experience love.... unconditional, without any expectation... what a mother feels for her baby , at least for a few months..... the experience is still fresh, it was a part of her, in the womb... And human being can evolve(by choice) to experience this love Universally too...

true love is a high and holy principle altogether different from that love which is awkened by impulse and suddenly dies when severely tested. marriage instead of being the end of love will be it's beginning. Love in it's truest form can be expressed in giving for others. that is where it came from. It is GOD'S principle. because HE is the ONE WHO GAVE FIRST.
