Of course you can! Yeah, you are going to fall a lot but it isn't as if you're going to break (you aren't that frail yet are you?). If you are motivated and as you say, are in good shape, you've got nothing to worry about other than some bumps and bruises. But, by the end of the day it's nothing that a couple Ibuprofen and a beer can't handle.
Someone will undoubtedly chime in here about some horror story injury they suffered while learning. I won't lie to you, it can happen but it's in no way a common thing You can lessen your risk of injury by getting a set of wrist guards as broken wrists are the most common injury.
I know plenty of people well into their 60's starting to snowboard. I taught my mom how to snowboard when she was just a little younger than yourself, if she could do it anyone can. Chances are you and your daughters will get split up during your lessons. This is a good thing. Teenagers and adults learn differently and at different rates so don't fight the system. The pros at the resort know what they are talking about.
I say go for it, it's a great sport and a lot of fun.

I definitly think you should give it a try. It will be hard the first few days but you should be able to get the hang of it if you stick with it. Snowboarding is way fun and it will be something that you and your daughters could have in common. I know that I wish that my dad could snowboard. He tried it once but gave up so he just skiis and it would be a lot cooler if he could board with me. And thats a good idea to take a lesson. It will help you to learn a lot faster and they will give you a lot of good tips. Have fun snowboarding if you decide to give it a try! It will definitly be worth your while.

I think xitmike is right. I ski every year, I am 51, but would not snowboard. We ski as a family and the boarders stay with us much of the time, but learners are on their behind most of the time and getting up so often looks EXHAUSTING, not too mention slowing everyone else up. Have a good vacation, which ever way you choose!

I'm sure you could learn with time but the question is whether you want to be on your *** the whole trip while they are skiing, slowing them down or getting seperated because they can't wait for you. If you don't mind the trip being a learning trip for you and letting them go off then go ahead and give it a shot. But if you wanna keep up with them then stick with skiing if you think you could do that better I would say.

This would be a great time for you to learn how to snowboard. I would recommend buying and using some wrist guards and a helmet. I would also recommend preparing yourself for the most fun that you will ever have.
P.S. Pain is temporary.

You can do it, but you won't really catch on until you've gone at least 4 or 5 days, by then you'll be better at turning, riding, stopping etc.. the first time you go you will fall alot and have really sore legs it takes alot of practice. Good Luck

Why not give it a try? I won't lie to you though, you'll be on your a** all day the first day, no question about it. I recommend knee pads, like the flat volleyball ones. It might sound stupid but your knees will thank you---you're going to spend a lot of time falling and getting back up and the knee pads just give you bit of cushion.
