Fab - and yes, it *IS* an exciting time - lol and a bit chaotic and stressfula t times too :)
Get a little pad and pencil. Keep in top pocket. Every time you touch something write it down.
Kettle, cup, toaster, bread, butter, salt, pepper, loo roll, toothpaste, hairbrush, airfreshener, you will get LOADS more things that otherwise are too easy to forget.
To be going on with though:-
Food prep: microwave can do most things, kettle, toaster, cutlery, bottle/can opener, plates, mugs, bowls. cooking spoon, ladle, measuring jug, slotted spoon/strainer, glasses, frying pan, saucepan
House electricals: iron & board, vaccuum cleaner, hair dryer, little portable TV, hifi etc.
Other house "essentials": salt, pepper, vinegar, t-bags, coffee, powdered ilk (for when you run out of liquid milk!), sugar, LOO ROLL - (vital!) a few tins of cheap and cheerful means - beans, tray of eggs, hot dog sausages - frozen stuff if you have a freezer.
A small heater / extension lead, reading lamp for bedroom, hangers for wardrobe, dubet and pillows + covers.

bed / sofa (or combine the saving pounds)
microwave - get a good one will last longer and you can do coffee & food in it
cups / glasses (paper ones will do until youve settled in saves on washing up
curtains - dont want the the neighbours spying on you
at least one wardrobe and some coathangers
plenty of black bin bags
radio/music centre - until youve enough money for a tv
if the place is not central heated get an oil filled raditor that you can move around on wheels
cleaning stuff - bucket / bowl / mop /broom / flash seems to do it all these days
this should help get you started - hope it helped and good luck
