Many items neccessary and vital to the USA are no longer made here. We are petroleum dependent. What if there is a war?

Quite frankly - if there is any event that causes significant disruption in global trade, there will be mass starvation, a lot of people wearing hand me downs, power outages will become common.

In theory millions of people will die, if not billions.

The only two countries that I am aware of that could be totally self sufficient are China, and perhaps India.

Russia and Canada might also fair well.

The rest of us are screwed...

Aren't there supposed to be smart people who are thinking these types of things through before selling America off in bits and pieces?

If something really drastic happened to adversely effect America, there would be a war, we would start it. Our souls are being sold in return for profits by people that don't need the money.

Yah interesting question as I'm in China right now visiting with my parents. There is already a war for oil in Iraq and my parents always told me to learn chinese growing up in case there is a war with China (I'm Chinese).

I don't think there will be a war with China as many products are made here in China. China is too powerful and they are not interested in fighting, but in contributing to the rest of the world economically (as seen in a recent summit with 49 developing African countries). The US is trying to bully China, but they are quickly learning that they have to work with China in order to make sure trade and the free flowing of imports/exports are in the best interests of both countries.

The developing countries would survive but it would be very difficult for the first world to adapt they would in time collapse because they are so reliant on high technology.
