My mom died Feb 19,2006. I am a nurse so I took my family medical leave and cared for her in her home. I bathed her, fed, her sat with her, talked with her, slept in the bed next to her hospital bed(we had a hospice coming in and out to help us). I read to her, laughed with her, cried with her and enjoyed my time with her. The best thing that I have done for her is to make sure that my daddy, the love of her life for 54 years is well cared for, supported, and not left alone. She was the best mother a person could ever have had and It was an honor to be able to care for her at the time she needed me most. She cared for me for so many years it was good to be able to return that love and care in her last days.

The obvious: Tell her you love her, we all want to love and be loved. The best thing you could have done for her is to be there for her, her last days living, and just sit with her, even if you read to her, hold her hand, stroke her forehead, just being in the same room would give her peace and acceptance she will be leaving you soon and going to a better place.

I'd tell her thank you for just being mom, and I never do enough for my mom. All she wants is for her kids to love her.

I'll told her that she's a great mum & it's been amazing moment for being hers. It's easier for you asking what I've not yet done for her, since I haven't yet done as much as she's done for me.

If I couldn't do anything to stop it I guess all I could do would be to kiss her and say goodbye
