Thats a bit of a problem really.

Filter out the unimportant bits (eg. will you really be interested what you had for breakfast when you re-read these in 10 years or more?).

Practice writing answers on Yahoo - you have to keep them brief.

Buy a journal that only has a small amount of page per day, then you can't go on forever - there will be no space.

Journals don't need to be written in every day. Some days if you've had a quiet day and nothing worth remembering has happened, you don't need to write in it. If you read famous published diaries, enteries weren't written every day or even every week. You don't either.

It's up to you how you want to write in your journal. What is its purpose? Do you intend for others to read it? Is it to get your feelings onto paper? Is it a memory of life? Try writing short one line sentences about your day highlighting the main important aspects of it. Then, expand on them. You don't need to start from the first minute you wake up every day - just recall important events that have happened or something funny. Or, write something down as soon as it happens and transcribe it later. You may even find that when you read over what you've written earlier that you shorten it.

A journal, as defined in "The American Heritage College Dictionary", is " A personal record of occurrences, experiences, and reflections kept on a regular basis; a diary."

There is no hard and fast rule that says a journal must be recorded in daily. I record in my journal the milestones in my life, information I don't wish to forget, and, yes, even things that make me mad or upset. Sometimes there are days between entries, sometimes there are 2 or 3 entries for one day. The way I look at it, a journal is for recording things that are important to me.

Here's a technique I've used with my kids (and co-workers, anybody) that will work for you:
Tell me the 1-3 Very Best Things that happened today.
Tell me the 1-3 Very Worst Things that happened today.

Tada! This'll help you get on track, keeping focused on your goal of looking at the journal in years future with brief to-the-point comments in it.
Have fun!

Try writing a 'blog'. You can always go back and edit your entries if you feel you've been over-long - and with the potential for feedback from readers you might find their interest encouraging you to write on days when you feels less inclined.

You don't need to write in it every day... only when you feel like doing so. Best is to get a diary with blank pages... not the calendar diary.

try using a cassette player/recorder, set it up, and each day turn it on and record your ideas on what you want to put in your journal, then once a week you can update your journal with your reminders on the player...

I have one, but I do not write in it everyday. I write in it when I have something that I want to vent about or something I need to figure out.
