I am a 21 years old female. Thinking of teaching piano as a private teacher. I started playing piano when I was 4, but I don't have any of the certifications that can prove I am able to teach. Help me with some answers, thanks.

Have talent? Have piano? Have some lesson books to give/sell to students? Have some time? Have some desire for extra money?

that's all....

put up some advertisements in grocery stores, music stores. put a classified ad in your paper. talk to people and tell them that you are now offering lessons.

most piano teachers don't have any "certifications", so don't even think about that!

god bless

Ability to play a piano I would say. I play a little by ear. I can learn any song I hear. I'm often asked to teach people or their kids. I tell the I can show them some basics to get started then I refer them to books. If you want to function in a school or something you may need certification, but to show people how to do what you do is nothing, you may only need some kind of license

I'd say it's far less about your ability to play the piano, and much more your ability to teach your target group.

If your target group is young kids (say), then do you have experience in motivating them, keeping them interested, dealing with them if they go off in a sulk, etc.?

I'd much rather be taught by a great teacher but mediocre player than the other way round. Of course, both talents would be best!

You don't need certificates, but you may need to prove to your potential employers that you can play and have a firm understanding of music theory. All you really need is a piano and a student and an advertisement in your local paper.

Knowing how to play the piano would be a good start!
