Isn't Christmas about the birth of Christ?
Where are the nativity scenes? Where are the TV programmes dedicated to the festival?
I'll tell you where they are - they are in the minority of homes and on the minority TV channels because the 'new' meaning of Christmas is how many credit cards you can max-out, how expensive a present you receive / give, which channel has the biggest audience, who's going to be the Christmas number one, who can drink the most and get the biggest hangover, whose house has the most decorations, which High Street store makes the biggest profit, which country can have the worst Christmas or Boxing day atrocity and a host of other non-Christian related markers.
This is not just Christmas, this is self centred, greed inspired, capitalist, non-religious Christmas.
This is not Christmas at all. This is just another excuse to forget the needy, homeless, elderly, sick and disadvantaged in our society whilst building up massive debts in a financial and moral way.
Rant over - Merry Christmas to one and all.

I absolutely love Christmas because I know I can have a few days with my family to totally chill out after the manic month of December at church. We tend to be generally busy anyway throughout the year but there are so many events going on it is unbelievable.
We have already had a Santa's Grotto, which looked amazing and the kids went home with a pressie and a framed photo, a 'Stars in their Eyes' night and Christmas Karaoke. We've also just done a Christmas giveaway where we've given away over 30 hampers and presents such as family days out, shopping vouchers, flat sceen tv's & dvd player as well as presents for over 30 kids.
This week we've got parties, a ladies pampering day, Children's nativity, school parties and nativities, over 60's fun day & party...
For me, Christmas is having an excuse to totally treat people in a way that they either would never expect or would never be able to afford to do themselves and to show them just how special and amazing they really are.

Christmas means peace, quiet and sunshine. It's a time to get away from London - preferably to Australia where I am now - and read, swim, walk, write. I loathe all the pressures the traditional Christmas imposes, not just about money and presents, but who goes to who, who cooks, who drinks, who drives...
We have a wonderful Hallowe'en with our grandchildren, lots of fun, then we get out of everyone's hair till the January sales, when we buy all the presents.

Because it's big business and chains need to make money. It's all about commercialism these days. All about the big buck and how much you spend. It's also why so many people end up in debt each year. Merry bloody Christmas! *sigh*

Christmas for me is all about having my family around me so I would say good company, good food and a nice relaxing atmosphere. Gifts are nice but dont have to be big flashy things to make me happy xxxx
