Well, Dec. 6 is St. Nicholas day. It is celebrated by some people in America and some gifts are exchanged in some cases. I think the amount that America is based on christianity is a bit greater that Europe, so they want to put more emphasis on Jesus's birthday. Dec 25.

It has something to do with the 12 days of Christmas (;ike the song). Christmas starts on December 25 and Ends 12 days later on January 6.
I have no idea why this is, when or where it started.

St. Nicholas was an actual saint and loved Children. He followed the works of Jesus. Santa was adopted and Americanized from this caring saint. I am a first grade teacher associate at a Catholic school and we just celebrated St. Nicholas Day. I researched some information at this site : www.stnicholascenter.org it was very helpful to me. Hope it helps you too. Merry Christmas!

It is a reflection of economics in time. The 12 days of Christmas are truncated for economy of time. the gift of the Maji were presented months after the birth of Jesus. Most Spanish American countries also give the gifts on the 6th. America sort of saved and re-invented Christmas as a major holiday through Advertising and of course Hollywood! Merry Christmas, Happy Christmas to our Allies and to all our Troops.

Different customs and traditions. Our Santa has very little to do with the celabration of Christ's birth, , so why we have it on Christmas in the US is a mystery to me.

Because Europe is closer to his home, the north pole, so he goes there first before swinging over to America on the 24th.
