white kerosene is clear and has no dye in it, dyed kero is usually red

white kerosene should be clear as stated get from a blue pump or a pump with blue letters. anyother color is starting to be fuel oil and it not only will muck up the wick but will stink while it is burning. that is why they say to use kerosene. diesel will be labeled such. some people use #1 fuel oil and this has a bit of a smell when burning #2 is worse etc.

It is called K1, or #1 kerosene in most places. I have seen some people use died K1 but make sure you put a new wick in the heater each year.

I use the red dyed kero all the time. You might have to change the wick once a year but you can buy alot of wicks for the differents in price. By the way they dye this kero so it can be detected by the law when used in tractor trailers it has no road tax and its safe to
