got to be joe calzaghe, the performance against jeff lacy (which i was lucky enough to be at) was one of the best performances i have ever seen. The only british sportsman who has done anything worthy this year, and still is the longest reigning champion in world sport. hatton should have won last year for the tzuyu fight and i think thta calzaghe will be given it.

i'd predict andy murray because he's the only recognisable contender on that shortlist and plus, he's had a relatively good year. but of course the others have as good a chance as murray to win. i'm in a way glad that no footballer has been nominated in the final 10. there was nobody who made that much of an impact over the past 12 months in that sport. though you could argue steven gerrard deserved a mention. the england football team screwed up in the world cup when all the hype was centred on them to go out to germany and win it. sven goran erikkson was a money-grabber who couldn't care less about the national team and whose tactics and substiutions baffled and angered england fans. right now, football is losing credibility- it is becoming more of a marketing pr stunt and its losing respect as its no longer seen as a sport anymore. the commericialisation of football has made it less respectable in recent years and it has damaged the reputation of the sport.

am i the least bit saddened that not a single footballer has been nominated? no- because not one of them made a significant impact this year

i personally think bbc sports personality is the biggest pile of bull i've seen in my lifetime and england football cricket and rugby teams are s**t most years but they will still win. scotland under 19s get to the final of the euro championships will they even get a mention? i doubt it, will england get it for their world cup exploits probably, people who do 1 good thing and are english always win it, i mean johnny wilkonson?! and theo walkcott is tipped for young player of the year or something how many games has he played???? maybe the bbc should look past the english borders for once.

It was a bit dodgy, wasn't it? When I saw Lennox Lewis there with the trophies and Ricky Hatton and Joe thingy not looking ever so surprised, I did wonder what the point of the phone vote was. Apart from that Lewis should have won anyway.

I would love Beth Tweddle to get it. I know she doesn't stand much chance but a gold medal in the world championships is an achievement no other Brit has ever achieved. Her bar routine is superb. She has done well to be in the top ten though. Shame David Walliams isn't in there too!

I don't think that Andy Murray will win, he made the mistake of telling a newspaper article that he hates the English, then he was forced to apologise before playing at Wimbledon. I think Ricky Hatton will win.

I think it should be (Amir khan) or (Joe calzaghe), mainly because they are the only sports stars who have even remotely shone this year, as Khan has his first title fight tonight at such a young age, and Joe is consistently defending his title......Football, rugby, and cricket have all been crap this year...all with the exception of one player (Joe Cole) in the world cup!

I don't think there should be a result this year. There's no-one who stands out and deserves to win.
