its only a sin in the minds of simple, uptight and prejudiced people

It's only a sin to be gay if you adhere to a religion that says it's a sin. Societies that follow these religions then establish moral codes based upon these religious teachings. Once religion is removed from the picture then being gay becomes a lifestyle choice and not one of morality. People need to realize that what you, or I, or anyone else does privately is not their concern. It's none of their business. You are on the road to enlightenment once you begin to question your religion. I can not tell you how relieved I was when I realized how stupid religious beliefs can be. Being an Atheist looking back at religion I can see so much hypocrisy. I am surprised I couldn't see it before.

I don't have a simple answer. I have been confirmed in both the Roman Catholic church, which does not condemn homosexuality as long as a person is celibate (huh???); and the Episcopal Church U.S.A which is performing gay marriages in some areas, although most Episcopals still oppose it. Jesus said in Matthew 5:44 (paraphrase) that we are supposed to LOVE EVERYBODY ALL THE TIME, even our enemies. In the Beattitudes in Matthew 5:9 (paraphrase) Jesus says that PEACEMAKERS are the sons and daughters of God. Me personally, I believe that promiscuity is a bigger issue that orientation. Sometimes I have trouble discerning what's right and wrong for other people. But I know what is right and wrong for me. I believe that I am supposed to love everybody all the time. As far as religion is concerned, I believe that everybody who is truly seeking God, not treating God like a magic genie in the sky, but truly seeking God, will find Him. If a person is truly seeking God then they will become, in time, God's perfect creation. It does not matter who the person is. The scripture about "ask and you shall receive" is talking about receiving God (not winning the lottery). And this is open to EVERYBODY. Jesus died for EVERYBODY. For what it's worth that is my little rant on the subject. But that is still not a black and white answer is it? I apologize for all the biblical paraphrasing. I am not a bible scholar. I just know what the scriptures mean to me. Look them up for yourself and see what you think.

Listen I said it once and I will say it again THere is something amiss in the bible. IMperfect men were given prophetic visions and signs and expected to write them down and teach them. NOw honestly when you have a vivid dream the night b4, by the time you wake up do you remember all of it? YOu can forget alot of detail the longer you wait to write it or think about it. I know men today who think they have been inspired by God and write things or teach certain things, and you know what? Its contrary to HOw God is. Jesus Taught Love, and never talked bad about HOmosexuality. He adressed damn near everything else just not HOmosexuality. ONly B4 him and after him was there anything written. I say God made us ALL in his image and he makes no mistakes. EVeryone and everything on this planet thas their purpose. DOnt judge, LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF and all will be fine.

I'm straight too but I can see no reason why homosexual acts between consenting adults could or should be thought of as sinful. I'm not religious either but I think the bible tells it's followers not to judge others lest ye be judged. I think that's correct but if it's not it should be.

Melly my dear.

You wont find the answer to this anywhere in your religion.
It is not a sin.
Only straight people who doubt their own sexuality consider it a sin. You are obviously not like that, and you are young, and just beginning to see examples of bigotry and hatred among people.

...Firstly, WHY are there so many homophobic religion trolls on the LGBT board? She's askin a question, stop stating the obvious blathering!

Secondly, what's sin? Personally, sin is letting someone like "god" steal your right to love and life from you. THAT, dearest, is sin.

obviously you can not have sex with the same sex.....It's possible......many things are a sin which we may prefer to indulge in albeit not good for us ....all sin is tempting regardless of which ones we are more vulnerable to ....those are just the harder ones for us personally ....while others aren't seemingly affected by the temptations we have.....some people have a anger problem, some a sex problem.some pride.lust.greed.lie.cheat steal on and on and on...
It's a sin because god says it's a sin not because we like his opinion or not.....the problem with sin I believe is that we choose to ignore and rationalize away /justify our sins instead of agree with him and look for answers from him.......None of this is exclusive to homosexuality or sins involving sex ...rather all types of sins... we just find some easier to pick and choose..

Probably why it's easy to point fingers at others .

It is only a sin if you believe what other tell you. Don't believe the Bible, it is full of inaccuracy and contradiction. Find your own answer.

Besides, according to many authorities, we are already sinners upon our birth (original sin). So sin doesn't seem to be something we get to choose to do.

Saying "I cant help it " is not really an excuse for anything , is it? Its like mass murderers claiming that "God made me do it". If you absolve yourself from all personal responsibility, then that allows you to do absolutely anything at all, however morally repulsive.

The main reason that homosexuality is not a sin is because it is a form of love and that has to make it, at the very least, not a bad thing.

that's why i'm not catholic anymore.

anyway, it is a sin because being human is a sin in at least christianity. you have to turn into a droid in order to (honestly) follow all of the religious rules set for people
