I would leave the router/modem as close to the ADSL phone point as possible and then run Ethernet cables (CAT5). If that is not plausible because you do not have long enough cables, or dont want the mess, consider going wireless? (it is a little slower though but adequate for home and small offices)

Ordinary modem leads are not good enough. You need an ADSL extension lead made from Cat5 or Cat5E cable as a minimum and it can not be longer than 10 metres. Phonapart do one.

I have just set with Ethernet cable 20 meters for £8.50

very fast and safer as I found my wireless card was picking up my neighbour's signals

CAT5 or CAT6 if you've got Gigabit Ethernet on your LAN

You will need RJ45 connectors.
If you are putting the connectors on yourself you will need the proper crimps. If this is a one off might be cheaper to just buy a pre-made cable.
