You have to remember that the movie is diiferent from the Comic.
Read the link to give you a better idea. With a good write I guess anything is possible though.
They left it open to bring Professor X back. Watch the end credit and see the little extra bit.

IF THEY FOLLOWED THE COMICS.....
The Professor could come back, since he escaped to the Astral Plane, and could then find a body (like a coma patient as he explained at the beginning of the movie to the kid's class). Scott (Cyclops) was never show dead, and since Jean turned off his powers when he found her (as Phoenix) he could simply be in hiding, or a John Doe in a hospital (with no powers he wouldn't stick out at all).
As for Phoenix herself? According to the original comic story, Phoenix WAS NEVER JEAN GREY IN THE FIRST PLACE. She was a galactic being who came to Earth to learn about us, and took a human form. The real Jean Grey was still in a cocoon of suspended animation energy at the bottom of the lake. When Phoenix was defeated the first time, she awakened and returned to the X-men (Scott and Prof. X did not die in that story).
So, ANYTHING is possible....

From a guy with a how based on the comics. Professor has somehow entered the astral plane. where all psychics can reach and communicate with one another. The answer for everyone is Apocalypse. He is the next villain to defeat. he changes mutants to become his four horsemen, pestilence, famine, war, and death. Don't care who the first three are, but death will be Phoenix. Apocalypse has been able to bring back the dead, so giving Jean a new life is simple. Professor will begin the process of returning from the astral plane, but needs Jean to help, so the x-men need to get her back on the side of good. Cyclops is also alive. They never showed him dead exactly, but did show Jean passed out on the ground and she didn't pass out when she kills the other victims later. My guess is that Cyclops was able to knock her out, with either a fist or a rock and ran to a hospital. Maybe he is in a coma or waiting to heal before returning. That is my idea for this.

The movie was so unrelated to the comic storyline, it's hard to say. Probably, would be my guess though. Maybe they will have her as a subplot and give her the power she deserves. They could have her just be reborn ya know. Afterall, she is the most powerful psychic on the planet, and we don't know how death works. She could find a body just like Pro X did.

Inevitably, yes. She seems to have come back approximately 37 times in the comics. Also, as you pointed out, that's what a phoenix does.
I do hope that they at least wait a full movie _before_ they decide to bring her back.

It's totally possible. In comic books, people always come back, I mean, look at Superman: The guy obviously died, but he came back. That's one of the joys of comics, no character ever has to die for good.
