Ds lite, it has a brighter screen, and yes you can play the Pokemon games on it. There's a slot in the back along with the DS game slot in order to play Gameboy Advance games. And you can trade Pokemon between Red/Green/Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald with the upcoming Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

they will both run games the same, exept that the ds lite is lighter, thinner, and a brighter screen

ds lite, all ds lite is is an upgrade of DS, it has a better lit-screen, and its slightly smaller..
