Has Xmas been 'commercialised' over the years? If so, how does that make you feel?

let's start at your use of the word Xmas... you took the most important part of the phrase out and replaced it with a big fat X...
I do believe we lost the true meaning of christmas. Honestly, how many people go to church on chrsitmas morning? but yet how many people are sitting at home in front a tree with stacks of presents piled underneath? (i'm guilty myself)
I found myself wondering how to keep the true meaning of christmas while letting my son enjoy the "commercialised" aspects. He knows it is baby Jesus' birthday. He also believes in Santa. (he's only 2 1/2) I told him that because Jesus loves us so much, he gives us gifts to celebrate his birthday, and Santa delivers them. He seems pretty happy with this. My brother on the other hand had the same concern, and never let his kids believe in Santa. While I think it's great he wanted to keep the true meaning, compared to the rest of their cousins, they just don't seem to have the same excitement, there's no magic. But I think it's sad when the child has no understanding of why there celebrating.
I think as long as you remeber why this day is so important, then the materialistics are OK to enjoy as well.

Yes of course it's been commercialised, along with everything else. It seems to be all about money and "stuff" these days. But some of us have managed to hang onto the true meaning of Christmas which we know has nothing to do with trappings, decorations, or even carols, but the heart and the soul.
It makes me sad to see so many sucked into the Christmas Celebration Myth that says that somewhere, somehow you can achieve the "perfect Christmas" if you just buy the right stuff, have the right decorations and plan the right party...somehow, they seem to think their lives and relationships will be transformed if they just buy, buy, buy.
Jesus was born in a stable, guys. He was poor. He was born that way so that we could ALL relate, irrespective of our socioeconomic status.
Christmas is in the heart, and all the commercial trash surrounding it just makes me that much more determined to simplify, simplify.Love people, use things: not the other way around.

It,s the end of another year and it,s winter time , so the last chance to have a good time and forget the worries of the world for a few days. Untill the better weather arrives. Yes it has been well commercialised but what has not when there is money to be made. Enjoy and have fun.

Some people yes and some people no. There are people who understand what Christmas is about and love it for that. Others mainly look forward to receiving gifts, and giving them. It would be nice for everyone to take a step back on Christmas and see it for the beautiful day it is, but there are so many different people on Earth with so many different beliefs that everyone will not see it in the same light. It is still a wonderful day regardless.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't buy gifts or accept them or does my family. What do we do? we go to church and call it a day.
I am a Grinch, I have no Christmas spirit well go stand in line at best buy walmart target what ever and see real Christmas spirit a bunch of people spending money they don't have on things that people don't need and sometimes don't want. Why not just do it on the 4th of July that way you would be the only one in the store everyone else would be watching fire works or any of the other 365 of your choice tell someone you care and that you love them but possessions don't say that they never will. Yes I am different but I am happy with being and thinking different at least I think for myself.

Yes, it's commercialized (and a sigh of relief to the limited number of vendors that depend on this time of year to justify their mercantile existence)

Personally, as I am isolated f/ my family geographically speaking, I bestow gifts of love recognition upon them randomly, as opposed to allowing the holiday to dictate my actions to me.

But I do feel lonely on Xmas day (only) ... so, I feel that I have not lost the true meaning of Xmas ... but distance/traffic prevents our paths f/ intersecting.

Some people have yes, they dnt even know what Christmas is for, apart from partying having turkeys and movies, the thing is the Bible has been changed few times now so therefore people dont know what is true and what aint, if they knew the true meanins of Prohet ISA (JESUS) teachings then Christmas wont be celebrated by some people as its now, but celebrated in way it really means something.

For the kids it is still a great time and of course they expect more than we did..I mean when I was a kid my favourite toy was Subbuteo or Mouse Trap..these days they get laptops, i-pods, mobiles etc for Xmas.

This makes me feel my age!
Happy Xmas !!!!

i agree christmas has become far too commercialised, the true meaning of christmas has been forgotten it is all about the birth of jesus our lord and saviour being born into this evil world to save us from our sins.it makes me very sad to think that people don't celebrate the real meaning of christmas, for most people it's all about how many presents they get or how many cards they get!
