I have dyslexia.
However, it is something that can be controlled. I was fortunate to have taken part in an Atlanta program on 1970. When I give a long speach, I must never have notes, just prompters. It is not about reading backwards. It is about repeating the correct text in a different order; or, it could be about seeing something that may not be there. So having a good memory is essential. Morgan Freedman is a person with dyslexia; but he is a great actor.

I have a high IQ, so people with dyslexia are not dumb. I am presently a professor at a medical university in China. However, I am an insightful linguist. I edit and teach in Medical English, Latin, and Greek. But my gift is the ability to remember large amounts of information. My longest speech was ninety minutes; I never used notes; I also never made an error.

Dyslexia is a brain-based type of learning disability that specifically impairs a person's ability to read. These individuals typically read at levels significantly lower than expected despite having normal intelligence. Although the disorder varies from person to person, common characteristics among people with dyslexia are difficulty with phonological processing (the manipulation of sounds) and/or rapid visual-verbal responding.

The manifestation of the disorder varies; sometimes these can be so mundane such as saying left and meaning right; writing the figure 3 in the reverse way and so on.

The treatment is not throught medicines.

It is essentially through spending more time with specific teachers and parents who are trained to handle dyslexic children cope and still learn well. Since your child is 6 years old, the problem has been identified early enough which is good; the challenge is to get the child cope with it and still do well in his or her normal learning function.

Do not waste your time touring for various alternative medicines.

If you insist, give the child "Chyawanprash"; it may not treat the problem, but wont get worse as well; may have some positive effect on other aspects of learning and development

Dyslexia is a little more complicated than simply reading things backward or reversing numbers, but those can be symptoms, in some cases.

For your child, you should talk with a qualifed special education teacher at the school (I'm assuming that's who diagnosed?) or school psychologist and get the necessary academic help. That's the most important thing.

If you are so inclined, it probably cannot hurt to look into dietary changes that improve brain function. This would include eliminating refined sugar, processed foods, processed meats, white flour, soda, and artificial sweetners. Make your own cookies using ingredients from the natural health food store, organic sugar or honey. Cook healthy meals from whole food ingredients, organic if you can obtain and afford it. Healthy fats (like cold pressed extra virgin olive oil), omegas from natural food sources (organic eggs) are good too. Make sure enough water is drunk... herbal tea like chamomile or peppermint usually agrees with kids and is as good as water. I would never give a child supplements without consulting a qualified health care practitioner, but there may be some that would support optimal brain function that would be appropriate. Just make sure the practitioner is qualifed. Six is awfully young.

Good luck.

Pin worms or thread worms are hardy critters, most common treatments for children contain Mebendazole which is a naturally occuring amino acid that blocks the uptake of sucrose by the worms leaving them imobile so that they can be passed through the gut. I know it sounds terribly chemically (if thats a word) but Mebendazole is found naturally in various brachia (cabbages) however it is broken down by cooking, eating the raw heart of a cabbage was the common cure for worms however the side effects are pretty nasty, complete bowel evacuation within half an hour of eating it, stomach cramps etc. Also persuading a small child to eat it in the first place would be near impossible anyway. I'd stick to the propriatory treatments that are normally made up as a milkshake or fruit cooler as the symptoms of worms can be pretty nasty.

Dyslexia is a condition where you read things backwards. And I don't think a baby that young needs any kind of treatment because our brains natrually see things that way. It is our stupid english laungage that makes it different. So they just need to be trained to do it the other way. There are lots of books you can read on the subject. Good luck.

chiropractics can be extremely helpful. i have dyslexia & when my back or neck is out, it's nearly impossible to spell correctly, talk or read without confusion. there are excercises a physical therapist or chiro can teach to help strengthen & retrain the nerve pathways to minimize the effects of this ailment.
