threorectically speaking...
literally any other ideas, could be done outside of it.
1. to build a family, to provide a safe and secure environment for all those involved.
especially children.
2. if a spouse gets sick, the other spouse is committed to them, even to the point of death.
3. children know that the parents will not leave them and will take care them their whole life and vice versa.
so it basically a contract that everyone in the family is committed to each other, and will sacrifice for each other, no matter happens.

Such a deep question. Love, Hate, Denial, Money, Kids, Life. It all causes marriage. It's just a part of life without which you will always wonder what the experience is like.

It establishes a legally recognised next-of-kin. If my wife eats the mushrooms I specially prepared for her, then I will gain from her life insurance. Vice versa if she smothers me with a pillow for snoring too loudly.
Also, assuming fidelity, having sex (semi)regularly without having to buy dinner and go to the movies is great.
Sorry, does this seem a bit shallow to you?

i feel it's more of a legal thing than anything else. for example, if your partner ends up in a life-threatening accident & medical decisions have to be made, you have more rights as a spouse than as a long-term partner. things like insurance & tax can change depending on your marital status. more obviously if you divorce someone you can get a hell of a lot more financially, than if you just break up with them.
but a lot of people are romantics, they see marriage as something more than a kind of business contract.

thats one hell of a question you asked i will try and attempt to answer such a question: say for example you meet that person that just makes your life feel worthwhile living would you just want that person around everyday someone that makes every messed up thing you have been through in your life well worth it cause the balance is that you have found that one person that made it feel that it was worth it to craw through hell just to get to heaven or maybe he/she is just what the doctor ordered and you wanna devote your whole life trying to make that person feel the way that you do every day you are with him/her.
