No visual display whatsover. the first time, there was a beep. but the power lights were on. i kept on pressing power button to no avail. after an hour, tried it again, it worked. then i ran virus scan, no virus. but then I tried to turn it on again the second time, same thing happened. just the lights are on but no display, just blank, dark screen. please help!

if its in warranty then claim it as u have some hard ware problem. beep indicate that some problem in RAM.

but if there is any virus then some problem in ur bios. check it from some hardware consultant.

My 5100 Inspiron died too. At first, I thought the power cord had died again (3rd cord), but it's working. The lights go on for a split second and then nothing. I called Dell (out of warranty of course) and they said that the motherboard was bad. She didn't even think twice before she gave me that diagnosis.

This stinks! The only think I want to get off of it is my son's itune information.

Which Video output are you using? Some have 2 Video card, one internal in mother board and another is in AGP port. So check it and select the video output properly. Also u can select video input from u'r monitor (applicable for dell LCD)

Many things cause this. But the main things are the screen going , RAM is Bad, Motherboard is failing, graphics card is failing.
