Smokers hate nothing more than someone always pressuring them to quit or throwing the negative effects of it in their face. It is no news flash that smoking is bad for you- smokers and non-smokers alike both know this. Simply tell your friend that when he/she is ready to quit, you will do everything in your power to support and help them.

The more you pester him/her the more he/she will resist. I smoked for 22 years. The more people told me to quit the more I didn't listen. I now have C.O.P.D. I quit in 1987. Of course the damage was done and now it is to late. Now I have a 27 year old daughter that I am trying to convince to stop smoking and she knows what I am going through. I hope you have better luck than I am having.O,by the way my father-in-law die with the same problem in 1973.

Hi,
Since I quit, I'm constanly now being asked by friends, "How Do I Stop Smoking?"
I really empathise with you, I quit my 20 a day habit in a pain-free way!
No stress, no cravings, no weight gain, no pills, patches or gums.
(I'd tried everything else, like you)
The program I followed was recommended by a friend and now boasts a 90% success rate and is 100% fully guaranteed - can't say fairer than that.
If you really intend on quitting this is it.
All the best..

Hey My 14 year old and 9 year old daughters stood in front of me 20 months ago and said " Dad will you stop smoking please cos we don't want you to die!"
I went to the doctors the following day and haven't smoked since and never will again!
I used to smoke 20-30 Marlboro a day because I thought enjoyed it but as soon as I realised I was hurting my girls I stopped!
Never underestimate the power of the truth no matter how old you are!

Well its simple, all you have to do is to talk to him about the disadvantages of smoking and that it causes canca of the lungs when will make him die in his early age.
Go to the web and get picture of people that are sick cos of smoking, show him picture of the lungs when it is infected with canca as a result of smoking. Good Luck

Telling someone to quit can have the opposite reaction .I wanted to literally punch people out for trying to tell me how to live ,no matter how well intentioned someone's pitch may have been. All I can say is that the patch helped me more than anything else except the will to do it.

smokers need to convince themselves to quit smoking. ive heard that nicotine's addictiveness can be compared to heroin's. its EXTREMELY addictive. your friend probably realizes its harmfullness, but just doesnt want to admit to them....its hard to not know how terrible they are for your health. The best advice i can offer in how to help your friend quit is this:
find information on how quitting helps you (there's a list that tells you, by the minute/hour/day/year what parts of your body improve and become "normal" once again...a sort of time line of quitting smoking. print this out and drop it by their door)
second, never support his/her smoking. whenever he lights up around you, saw "ew". dont let him smoke in your car, etc etc. itll bug him but he might appreciate it at the same time.

sadly, you dont! people can do as they wish and as the law permits. so if your friend wants to kill themselves from lung cancer even though its sad, thats their choice. and your going to have to deal with it. you can only give a person the knowledge and education and after that they are the ones responsable for a decision. you cant force somebody to quit smoking it just wont work if THEY dont want to quit!
