No. there is no scientific proof that being gay is genetic. At one time they thought they had found the gay gene , but later found that the " gay gene" was also present in 75% of the hterosexuals tested. This indicates that there either isn't a genetic cause for homosexuality or that the genetic influence can be overcome with choice.

D@mn good question. Genetic research has come a long way in a very short while, but there is no definitive data supporting the "gay gene theory" not yet anyway. Researches have isolated genes that they believe could cause a predisposition for homosexuality. Nothing conclusive as of today.
Its a huge ethical question! Gay people are in favor of the idea of being born gay as opposed to choice, but I think it is short sighted on their part because if (big if) a gay gene is found and isolated then the repercussions would be catastrophic on a social scale. These question would arise, "Can we treat it? Can it be isolated? Is it a deformity or form of retardation?" I'm not trying to piss off the gay community, but these questions will arise if a gay gene is found because the vast majority of people are heterosexual, bottom line.
I think choice is the greatest factor even if a person has a predisposition for homosexual tendencies. The r is simply not enough evidence as of yet. Obviously gay people should be treated fairly, but the social implications of a gay gene could destroy the American concept of homosexuality and popular culture would alienate gays in a manner consistent with 1960-70s. Choice is by far the better outcome for the gay community and their struggle for equal rights.

There is a lot of scientific information saying that it's genetic. Also, they have found that when a mother is under stress during pregnancy, certain hormones go to the fetus that can cause a change in the baby's brain making them more likely to be gender confused. Since animals in the wild are also gay, it's probably natural for a certain percentage of the population to be gay. Just think of the many things we wouldn't have without gay people. Native Americans treated gay people with reverence since they felt they had two spirits in them.

Ok mr ignorant. Let me fill you in on the facts. People do not turn into flaming homos overnight. As far as scientists and other research that they've supposedly done are concerned , people do not turn gay. You're born with the homo gene. I'm one myself and i've known ever since I was 7. At that age, I hadn't ever seen a gay film and I lived in a community where being gay was a sin. So I don't see how homosexuality is something that is influenced by your surroundings.

i believe there is a species of lesbian lizards somewhere in arizona i think, not sure if its az or no. they found out that there is no male of that species. in order for one female to reproduce, another female has to mount and act as a male would have, so in consideration, i don't think any of those lizards were raised by gays and watched any movies that turned them gay, or saw any gays kissing when they were little, or where raped or molested when they were wee little lizards. it mention if i remember correctly that there were males at one time then they became an all female species, and i'm pretty sure it wasnt because they had a bad experience with a male lizard either, and that they don't do it any other time than when they are in heat, meaning that they arn't doing it out of pleasure, so they arn't being lustful creatures so i'm pretty sure that taking that species alone into consideration, that gay is in the genes, it is nature, natures way, and you could say gods way if you believe in god because god created creatures that walk the ground before he created humans.

If it is - so what? If it isn't - so what? No matter how many scientists provide evidence either way it doesn't change the fact that you're gay! No one in their right mind would CHOOSE to be gay - that notion is insane. Who would choose to be ostracised, bullied, shunned, teased, ridiculed, maginalised, etc etc? Gays know in the depths of their beings that what they feel is what they are. And isn't that where ouir genes reside. The important question is are you OK with yourself? If others have issues with you let them get over it. Love yourself and you will find it so much easier to love others - regardless!

Maybe...i guess if you are born being gay it would be in your genes, but one would think that more than one sibling would be gay most of the time.

It isn't genetic, but it may be a first instinct, but that doesn't mean it is the right or only instinct. You shouldn't always follow your first instinct.

E.G. Rodents in iceland(?) every so often all go jump off a cliff together, because it is their instinct. Obviously, there is no decision involved with them.

Fortunately, we are humans and not rodents, so we get to choose.
