Like any musical genre, there is good and bad. Certain punk bands were great. The Ramones, The Clash, Black Flag, Iggy Pop (the Stooges), and The Sex Pistols were all great. Newer acts like Green Day and Rancid are pretty good, in my opinion; but they don't compare to those early pioneers.
Some acts were label as punk originally but really weren't. Often they found more success when re-classified as new wave instead of punk (Devo, Talking Heads and Elvis Costello to name a few).
Now are all the songs appropriate for your kids? Most likely not. You will have to actually listen to the stuff and decide. Every parent needs to judge for themself whether or not something is acceptible for their children. You know your kids maturity levels better than we do.
The Clash, the Ramones, and The Sex Pistols are pretty tame by today's standards; but there are a few songs which I would not allow kids to hear. The bands I listed as re-classified as new wave are all very safe, except for the song title "Jocko Homo" by Devo which is not very polite.

well, the punk music that I listened to when I was younger to me is great...The crap that they are calling punk music today sucks total @$$. Greenday, the donnas, give me a ***** break! The ramones, the stiff little fingers, lunachicks, X-ray specs...Now thats entertainment!!

Not today's industry tainted punk with limits and rules. It is too corporate, watered down and mainstream.

i love me some punk music but it's not for everyone just like classical, country, rap, r&b...blah blah blah..how about you get your own opinion.
