i'm so glad you wrote 'generally' in there...though an added 'some' before americans would have been nice. i don't think we're all fearful for the same reason. i, for one, tend to be fearful because i'm terrified of saying something politically incorrect...do you know how much we've gotten bashed because of that?

Some have shown that side so the media and go to town with it. Wouldn't it be different if they media saw them in a different manner. It all boils down to how they hate the Jews, and then you see it "look at what the Jews are making us do? look at us kill ourselves." Of course the media is going to pick up on that, because it will be first page news and a chance to roast them. Do you think the Jews feel sorry for them? Do you think I feel sorry for them? I'm Muslim and my answer is hell no!
As for that zealot minority well I say let's put them on a railroad track tie them there and watch the train run over them, now if they mend their ways let them go. With that all said America is afraid of Muslims, because they think all Muslims are like that? They made it bad for the rest of us. I'm telling you because you asked and you have to know the truth.

Personally I think this is like any clash of cultures. Lot's of general opinions float about. Mainly hinging on what one country/ideology/religion thinks of the other. The fact is this 'opinion' is not the view of the majority as we didn't choose or have any direct choice about the wars that are being fought. Alot of people's understandings of other cultures comes from the media, who are nothing more than extention of the governmental propaganda machine. People don't feel comfortable questioning, so will often go along with the flow just because that is the easiest thing to do. The fact of the matter is all these conflicts are born from mis-understandings, mis-communications and blind, bigotted hatred. Mixed into this are political agendas, half of which the general public has no clue of whatsoever. Therefore to give a short answer to the question the fear is born from a lack of personal control, threatening the security of people's lives and deliberate mis-information to feed this 'personal' insecurity and support government political agendas!

I am not afraid of any one man...however I am afraid of groups of people regardless of who they are. There is a saying I am fond of and it says a lot..."never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups". One Muslim by themselves can be a friend. Several Muslims together seem to evolve into a terrorist group. Right after 9/11 I watched the evening news and saw Muslim after Muslim say they were glad the United States suffered the attack. I've seen how Muslim men treat their women. I've seen how Muslim business owners in the U.S. treat their U.S. employees. I have become a racist when it comes to these people. Send them back to the sand dunes and build a fence around THEM...not Mexicans!

I can understand ANYONE being fearful of a religion that makes it ok to execute two male teenagers because they "experimented" with each other. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4184598.stm
I also have a problem with a religion that means that if a woman is raped and she cannot find FOUR witnessed (who must be male) to accuse the rapist, it is SHE who is punished - as no evidence can be brough against the man - but SHE would have to admit to having sex in order to accuse rape. Result: She gets flogged or stoned because she was raped.
This is the Muslim approach of dealnig with a teenage girl for "crimes against chastity" http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/5217424.stm
I am less than impressed with a leader who marries a 6 year old child, then once she is 9, consumates the marriage.
Terrorists are told that if they are killed in a "Holy War", they have both virgin girls AND (pre-pubescent) boys awaiting them in paradise.
Their religion actually USES the word "terror" when explaining how to deal with people of other faiths.
It was Muslims who paraded in London after the "cartoon incident" - waving "DESTROY THE INFIDELS" type banners and suggesting it was time for a "911 in Europe" - Extreme views from extremists? Yes - but supported by THOUSANDS of their kind at the demonstration. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006050831,00.html
The religion of MOST of the recent terror attacks in the UK? US? Europe? Take a wild guess.
I am not American, but I can see these as being acceptable reasons for the most open-minded of people to have a healthy fear of the Muslim way of life - and the terror their own Bible encourages them to use.
Mark
PS
The policitcally correct fools who "prattle on about racism" seem oblivious to the fact that it is actually more to do with the terrorism, torture, stonings and murder that this religion not only allows but ENCOURAGES. This is NOT racism, this IS reality. It is not prejudice, there is no "pre-judging" needed - the events HAVE happened ARE happening and WILL keep happening.

This is due to American generalizations. Just as the Christian crusaders did not represent all Christians, so modern-day fundamentalist Hindus, Muslims, Christians, & Jews do not represent their entire religion.
Regretfully, the country i live in is the second most intolerant & ignorant nation on earth, after occupied Palestine, & because of this they assume that just because a select group applies tribal traditions to its methods & then calls it Islam, it must mean that all Muslims are terrorists. But that is just not true, & I know that because I am a religious syncretist & as such I have read the Qu'ran.

I believe that it is getting better, because we are seeing that most muslims are loving and gentle people. Most Americans are the same but there are crazies in every culture. ------sadly, the 9/11 terrorists really helped out with the whole fearfull of muslims thing....

The only people who fear Muslims in general are those who do not understand. The people who attacked us are not ordinary Muslims, they are Islamic Extremists or Islamofascists. To put it in prospective, think of it this way. There are ordinary Christians and then there are those in the KKK who represent a small fraction of what true Christians believe. What we see on the news regarding the Islamic world is always ridden with the small majority of extremists that seemingly represent the majority of Muslims when in truth they do not. I am agnostic, so this is coming from one without bias. Please do not fear or persecute ordinary Muslims, they probably dislike the extremists as much as we all do.

9/11 probably. If I wasn't part Muslim I guess I would think they were weird.I am American, and I have heard some other Americans saying "Muslims will blow us up" or "They will takeover." I don't see it just from Americans I also see it from most people who are deep into religion. Most of the religious people I have seen are mean and like to insult each other. That's part of the reason why I am not too deep into the Muslim or Christian religion.

Who said we are fearful?, It's just that we don't trust them when their leaders rant hatred towards USA and want to blow us up ie:9/11.
Why wouldn't we mistrust them look what they are trying to do throughout world, it's only a matter of time before they attempt something again.
Look at all the Muslim countries preaching hatred towards us, I say not fearful just wary...I think that answers your question,,♥

i thank you very much for this question
Muslims are not bad creatures and their religion does not mean terrorism as allot think on the contrary in Islam Muslims are not o kill a child , a woman , an elderly man not even cut a tree in war time . Islam has allot of good virtues that order Muslims to treat people with respect and dignity . its a peace full religion .
