I am a nurse and I am proud of it. It is a noble profession and it involves taking care of sick people 24/7 who maybe related or not related to us. But other people take nurse as just a second fiddle job and a doctor's halper. What is your opinion about it?

Not at all. I think nurses do a very separate and equally important job as doctors. Doctors are there to diagnose and prescribe treatments, while nurses provide ongoing and essential care and often are the most important person for a patient. It's a very noble profession as you say, not an easy one, and one that requires a great deal of patience, commitment and knowledge.

As a fellow nurse I have to somewhat agree, but yet disagree. I think that SOME doctors feel we are a nuisance, only there to interrupt their dinner for an update on their patient. But if they tried to do their job without us, they would change their tunes. I think the public though has great respect for us. There was a poll done recently and the most trusted and noble profession listed was nursing, even above clergy. We may not always get the respect we deserve, but I know at the end of the day, I've helped someone, and I feel good about it.

I worked for 4 years in a VA hospital as an executive secretary (so not a medical professional) and I am here to tell you that I would trade ten good doctors for one good nurse.
The nurse is the heart and soul of any hospital, and he/she has more direct patient interaction and care than any other medical professional. It is the nurse that sees you on a regular basis and it is that same nurse who determine how quickly you get well.

I think it is a shame that our society has told woman that nursing is not a noble or worthwhile profession. Society, in particular, the femi-Nazis, believe that success is determined by your paycheck at the end of the week and since doctors make more than nurses, doctors are valued more. That is simply not true.

Thank you for being a nurse!!

Never. My husband had to spend 7 weeks in the hospital due to a stroke and if it wasn't for the wonderful nurses that cared for him, he would not have healed as well as he did. The doctors may be the ones that diagnose and prescribe, but the nurses are the ones that follow through on that diagnosis and see to it that the doctors orders are followed through with and help the healing process begin. I have always admired nurses and I think that they are taken advantage of at times and that their job can be thankless.

I feel that only those who truely loves to help and care for the sick, poor and elderly should take up nursing as a profession. For those who lacks this basic essential quality and has doubts on nurses' social status, they are better off in other vocation.

I think a nurses job is more important than a doctor, and some good nurses with experience get better at treating patients than doctors.
