was it because there was no reason for us to be there?? was it because perhaps the fine citizens of iraq had an inkling that living under the threat of getting beheaded in public was more appealing than the current chaos?? i mean we were told in glowing terms how stoked they were gonna be for big brave strong britney spears and oprah worshipping america to come knock on their door.

is it really conceivable that a nation DOESN'T want a starbucks every other door?? what is wrong with those simpletons???

go go go u.s.a.

I'm a Brit and in England we ask the same, We were in total support when we were told about weapons of mass destruction, but now realize we were misled and support for remaining is getting lower.
Our Troops are also there and we support them fully.

What surprises most of us is however wrong Saddam held back the Iran fanatics now we have destroyed the only tough army against Iran and replaced it with a Iraq government which is mainly Shire Muslims which is the majority of Iran.

When we do eventually pull out and we will Iraq will look just like Iran with Sharia law and terrorism will be encouraged to defeat us and convert us our democracy will destroy us!!

It is all a pile of sh-t.

However as in the past we invaded nearly every country at some stage in history WE should have learnt the lesson of history in Iraq and Afghanistan as we have invaded 3 times and been beaten each time!

What were they greeted with in your opinion if I may ask. We are talking about the citizens of Iraq not the remnants of the Republican Guard. Don't tell us what the Saddam loyalists behaved like. The Sunni's were Saddams "preferred" and lived under an umbrella where they received special treatment. Let's talk about the Shiites and the Kurds that had been oppressed by Saddam for decades and who had their family members tortured and murdered by his thugs by the hundreds of thousands. .

The citizens were appreciative yet apprehensive. They had lived under a dictators rule for the majority of their lives if not their whole life. When faced with freedom for the first time they were confused. Just as you would have been. They didn't know how to act. They had been told how to act for years and years. All of that changed. And no matter how wonderful that is, it is scary for someone to be let loose for the first time in their lives. Use alittle common sense here.

You know what turned the tide from cautious optimism to a feeling of suppressed occupation for the Iraqi's? Abu Ghraib. What happened at Abu Ghraib was absolutely awful but when the person(s) who leaked what had happened at AbuGhraib to the news media it changed everything for the worse. I have to wonder what motivated this person to turn those photographs over. Was it for political or financial gain. At the time those pictures were turned over to the media an investigation had already begun and the people who had perpetrated the horrendous behavior of those detainees had alrady been removed and were awaiting trials so it certainly wasn't to right a terrible wrong..

You ask what is wrong with "those simpletons". First, I don't know what simpletons you are referring to, but I could say the same thing. What is wrong with you? Do you honestly think that your questions and answers on these boards are doing anything positive to help bring an end to the chaos that continues today or are you just stirring the pot to keep the chaos going. I'd say you are enjoying the chaos. I'd say you are like the person who turned those pictures over to the media without taking into consideration what the ramifications would be to our country or to our troops still in Iraq. I wonder how many lives that have been lost can be attributed to turning those pictures over.

I don't think they have roses or know how to bake cookies. Either way Starbucks suck and it's because we didn't fight a war the way it used to be fought. We used to be able to bomb cities without getting in trouble with the lawyers. We used to be able to support the troops without telling them that they suck and should have never come back from the warzone. But all of that has changed. Due to the Red Diaper Doper Babies, that have all grown up to take hold of the government, the soilder in Iraq has to wait for some lawyer in the High position to get back to them after they go golfing and do some paperwork and get a good nights rest. Meanwhile the soilder is sitting there with sniper fire going over his head waiting for the ok. That's what's wrong in Iraq.

Mmm...good question. You should ask as to who imposed economic sanctions on Iraq and starved Iraqi children?

Would an Arab population support a country that blindly supports Israel's policies and actions?

Would they give out roses and sweets to them after they destroyed thier country?

Of course Iraq did not have ANY WMDs. Those allegations of WMDs were all lies. Disarming Iraq was Bush's primary and foremost mission. Iraq was no threat to anyone, Saddam already paid the price for invading Kuwait. He never attacked the US or any western country.

The question you should ask is, what was the point of attacking Iraq in the first place? Do the people deserve what they are currently going through? Its a shame, it used to be a good country with a nice and educated population. And now its a magnet for extremism.

Bush started the whole thing in Iraq, not the Iraqi people.

Your question is highly inconsistent. I feel sorry for your ignorance.

It is because the people of Iraq prefer an independent, functioning dictatorship to an anarchy controlled by rival warlords/political forces & a weak central government that is in truth a colonial puppet of the United States. That is why--because the honourable Iraqis prefer stability to chaos. President Hussein may have been a dictator but at least Iraq had an army, a police force, electricity & running water, jobs, etc. And if it hadn't of been for the internat'l community's refusal to help, they would've had food too.

Now that we are there--a police force & army that has absolutely no experience & no idea of what to do, no jobs, no electricity, no running water, no schools, no hospitals. Any of the latter two that exist are run by NGOs 'cause the puppet regime refuses to help in those areas.

There were photo ops....tearing down statues.
The government lied and the government did not do their homework.
Re Britney Spears.
Yeah I think the Iraqi guys would get a kick out of Britney Spears showing her stuff.
And they sure like Lionel Ritchie
excerpt from link
Grown Iraqi men get misty-eyed by the mere mention of his name. "I love Lionel Richie," they say. Iraqis who do not understand a word of English can sing an entire Lionel Richie song.

American pop culture is popular just about everywhere. Don't need to fight a war to bring it to people. They have satellite dishes.
What the invasion of Iraq was really all about remains to be seen but DUBYA wanted to invade Iraq BEFORE 911 and just used the attack on the WTC as a pretense for invasion

I'll tell you why. People of Iraq remember. they remember the United States helping Saddam get into power. They remember watching the United States and it's allies arm Saddam with chemical and biological weapons. They remember the Iran and Iraq war in which 10 countries profited by playing both sides of the war. They remember the usage of WMDs during the war and who gave it to them. they remember when Saddam gassed his own people and the United States looked the other way. They remember when they tried to rebel against Saddam and the United States turned the other cheek. They remember the economic sanctions that did not affect Saddam but destroyed the countries economy. They remember the profiteering made by Saddam and US businesses in the Oil for Food program. they remember the lies told by Dubya in order to support a false invasion. They remember the torture at Abu Ghariab. They remember that the country was made by colonial powers. They remember that they have no electricity, no power, yet the untied States is building permanent bases and living in Saddams old mansions. They remember that the United States doesn't give a **** about them. The United States just acts in it's own interest to further it's own goals that are not shared with the public.

It is wrong to impose American military actions on Iraq. They did not ask us to liberate them. While Saddam Hussein was a dictator, it wasn't America's place to remove him. The opposition groups should have been supported. It would have been better to eliminate sanctions against Iraq and then to open up a dialogue about democracy, peace and human rights.

I guess that someone wasn't paying much attention to what was going on. Here's your first clue genius:

SHOCK & AWE!

Remember that? What was the first thing targeted?

THE POWER PLANTS AND INFRASTRUCTURE?

How do you bake cookies (as if Iraqis are great cookie-bakers) without power?

What did you see next? Think hard now because I know it's hard to remember for someone with the attention span of a ferret.

PEOPLE COMING OUT AND HITTING SADDAM'S STATUES WITH THEIR SHOES!

That's their equivelent of baking cookies for our troops.

Now let's see if your attention span improved over the past 3 years. What have all the news people been saying about the violence in Iraq?

THAT IT'S BEING CAUSED MOSTLY BY FOREIGN FIGHTERS AND IT'S MOSTLY CENTERED AROUND BAGDHAD!

But of course, you Bush Bashers and America Bashers conveniently leave that part out because, if you didn't, it shoots a huge hole in your reasoning.
