Your not a nerd, and neither am I. I love doing cross stitch. I give all my friends ones that have had baby's recently, and they totally love it. It's something unique and different, plus they can't take it back ;) Not many young people do this anymore, so it is nice to see others who do. You have to have a lot of patience and skill to do stitching, and it is such an accomplishment when you finish a project. Don't be embarrassed, it's fantastic to have a hobby like this.
Way to go!

Are you kidding? Absolutely not! Cross-stitching is beautiful and get so indepth. Not everyone likes doing it because it is so intricate. I say three cheers for you for taking the time to do it. It's not only easy to take with you when you go places, but when you are finished with your project you have a unique gift for someone you love. I know that home made gifts are much more appreciated then something someone can go out and buy! Keep it up and don't get discouraged!

I've been cross stitching since i was 12 years old.
I am proud of the fact that my now deceased aunt taught me how to do it - - it is a wonderful memory that I will have and everything I stitch reminds me of her.
I - and others who enjoy it - would never think you are a nerd. And think of it as a skill that you have. These days so many people don't know how to MAKE things anymore - all they know is how to go to the store and buy things.
It is a beautiful accomplishment to know how to MAKE something.
Be proud of your skill!!

Absolutely not. We all have creativity that we express differently, sewing, cooking, music, etc. I was the only one in grade school who was taught by their mom and knew HOW to cross-stitch. I love it, have numerous beautiful projects I have finished, made wonderful gifts for family and friends, and find it very relaxing to do while I watch tv.

Try this! http://www.subversivecrossstitch.com/ :D

Or hey, come on over to the craftster.org forums (Motto: "No tea cozies without irony"), where plenty of formerly grandma-crafts are being reclaimed in the name of hipsters.

Some recent cross-stitch posts there:

Mario's 1up mushroom: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=137837.0

Freddie Mercury: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=5783.0

And even if that's more edgy than you go, there's plenty of room for more traditional stitchers as well.

From a twentysomething who obsessively knits, in public as well: No shame! :D
