I'm taking a sociology class and my professor says that it's dangerous for americans to travel in certain areas. I have a hard time believing that the US can improve its image.

I may dislike American foreign policy, but it is the least participatory Western democracy out of the G8 countries. Less than forty percent of eligible voters cast a ballot. That is a problem in itself.

I wonder how many of the 'war protesters' on this forum have actually voted. I do side with them, but let them put their votes where their mouths are. With Paris Hilton arguing that you should 'vote or die', (she didn't vote and she is still alive, what a liar) no wonder noone votes...they're too busy downloading her songs and other nocturnal activities...

As far as the perception of America goes, I don't agree with anti-Americanism but do believe that your foreign policy is incredibly damaging, especially to Africa, Southeast Asia and South America. There is a need for a change in government and more education about the effects of American politics.

In some countries, like Palestine, Syria and North Korea, the government brainwashes people into hating one group or another. Symptoms of Marxist Russia and the Third Reich there...

People in forgien countries hate the government more than the people. Chavez is a loony he just hates the government not the American people. The government United States I can understand poor countries hating Uncle Sam poor policies in the past of supporting murderous thugs in the defense of capitalism. The people that hate America are the ones buring flags in the middle east that are fed false government propaganda by their repressive regimes. The Europeans may not like American government, but they like American vices because there cheap trills, and the Mexicans willing to die and work in America. Were not hated as media thinks, but you gotta make the distinction between the American people, and the American government. America does not need to fix its image America should start to encourage Germany, and France needs to grow a spine and take on Islamic extremists themselves. Why would you hate a country, where gas is cheap, booze is cheap, housing is cheap. We may not be cultured and sophisticated most of Europe were still babies culturally, like the Canadians and Mexicans not gonna be too complex in this hemisphere

Those that hate our Country are few, as far as our continent, Europe and most educated societies go. Now for them that hate us so much as in the ME for example; "Propaganda" within their societies against the life and freedom that the US citizens enjoy is one of the reasons.
Keeping them busy hating a nation they know so little about is another good reason. It keeps their mind off the misery their governments keep them under while the few in their society
enjoy such fruits as the average citizen in US enjoys.
Hate has been identified as "food for hungry bellies" while the rich enjoy steak.
As far as what the US would have to do to change this image?
I seriously believe that this is a "catch 22" , and also seriously doubt if the "think tank" has even considered focusing on this.
As a young child though (I was not born in the US) and prior to my family migrating to our US, I was always told of the greatness, opportunities to better ones self, the courage and History and freedom this blessed land has to offer.

I do NOT hate the United States. They are my neighbours. I have travelled to the US several times and found the people friendly, helpful and kind.

You cannot and should not judge an entire Country because of Politics or current events.

All the stupid ones hate it, because they think we are all rich and control what the government does, and the whole world, there is nothing to "fix" that image, they are taught to hate before they can walk, Clinton was trying to schmooze our enemies while they were plotting 9/11. Indonesia sapt in teh face of US troops delivering tsunami relief, Pakistanis were little better about the earthquake relief aid, in some cases the Taliban hijacked it and convinced people they weres upplying it to them. You can't fix that, you can only state openly and bluntly that those nations going against us in the UN will not be getting aid from us again, PERIOD. We need that for our own domestic issues, namely the deficit and budget balancing, then social issues, like saving social security (I have to pay it, I want it to be there for me too!).

You just do what you have to and not worry about being in a popularity contest. God protect me from my friends, my enemies I can deal with.

If anyone hates the golden USA, then they need to leave.

This is the best country ever. People in the USA have such good healthcare, food, employment, and all other possibilities.

USA is a great country and I would not want to live any place else.
