Two very funny movies:

Grils Will Be Girls
Die, Mommie Die

Very campy spoofs of Hollywood and the Lana Turner genre. Not for the easily offended, it is full of one liners you will remember the rest of your life, and some of the most twisted jokes and sight gags on film

Well, I tend to like movies that are romantic and have a storyline, that also have an overlying message and deal with tough issues, but are happy and leave me smiling, instead of sobbing into tissues. Mind you, those sad movies are still beautiful in their own right, and thought-provoking, and all that, but they aren't something I want to pop into my DVD player on a slow Friday night, you know?

So for ones that fit my criteria:

In lesbian movies, "Better Than Chocolate". It deals with coming out, censorship, discrimination, lesbian relationships, transsexuality, discrimination against transsexual lesbians by the lesbian community, parenting . . . all that, and it's funny, sweet, and charming, to boot. I loved it. "Mango Kiss" is also a lot of fun, dealing with the little-shown side of lesbianism (the butch-femme genderplay, S/M, and non-monogamous side, to be precise) and one couple's dangerous play within it. Romantic and very funny while still dealing with issues; ends happily! Oh, and "But I'm a Cheerleader"- it's just fun, fun, fun!

For gay male movies, I love "Latter Days", just because it's so sweet and sad but uplifting in the end. It just has this special something in it that rings so true; I don't know if it's the non-preachy religious angle, the good acting, or what, but it's a story I love. I liked "Trick", too, because, despite being a fluffy piece of film, it still made me like it. There's no hard issues or anything to deal with- just cute, romantic stuff with a clever premise. Oh, and Christian Campbell- need I say more? And I haven't yet seen "Another Gay Movie", but I'm betting that it will be on my top 10 list when I do- it's a gay spoof on "American Pie", which looks to be like laugh after laugh.

Hope that helps!

Too many gay movies make you so depressed at the ending you want to slit your wrists. Here are a few with sweet, if unrealistic endings.

Beautiful Thing
All Over The Guy
I Think I Do
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Red Dirt

(From a lesbian perspective)

Kissing Jessica Stein. If only because one of the women wasn't exactly 100% lesbian, it didn't have any real political message or tried to be preachy. It was just about a lesbian couple and their relationship. So many gay and lesbian movies try so damn hard to have some sort of deep meaning or take themselves way too seriously. I think that's why I typically avoid seeking out movies with the gay-bi tag on them.

Love denied; Love embraced
Brokeback Mountain and a recent episode of Cold Case( not a movie,TV show) exposed the pain of Love denied by many from my generation, I felt my own pain, fear and denial... tears
Latter Days by contrast though painful in subject was a triumph in allowing one to Love one's self enough to Love and be Loved a much happier ending.. tears " It may be better to have Loved and Lost, but Don't throw it away

I love a little Australian film called "The Sum of Us"

It is a very funny and sometimes touching story of a gay man and his father. They are both looking for love and figuring out how to love each other as well.

Long time companions. Bring tissues. Watch it with your significant other. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give this one a 10.
Informative, touching, I think this is where I really first learned about AIDs.
